Enforcement of IP rights through designated law enforcement agencies i.e. Police, FIA, Pakistan Customs etc. is one of the key functions of IPO-Pakistan. IPR Enforcement Coordination Committees have been established at Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore to effectively address issues of piracy and counterfeiting for development of genuine business. In this backdrop, meeting of IPR Enforcement Coordination Committee at Islamabad held on 28th December, 2016 at IPO-HQs, Islamabad. Meeting was presided over by the Chairman IPO-Pakistan Mr. Shahid Rashid. Director General IPR Enforcement from Pakistan Customs Mr. Saleem Ahmed Ranjha, Executive Director (IP) Ms. Aaisha Makhdum, DIG (Operations) Islamabad Police Mr. Kashif Alam and other senior officers from FIA, PEMRA, and FBR were present in the meeting. On special invitation executives from private sector i.e. Oxford University Press, Air Foundation, PPMA and Microsoft Corporation also participated in the meeting. Following agenda items were discussed during the meeting; i. Presentation “An Overview of IPR Enforcement in Pakistan”; ii. Work Plan of Training Sessions for IPR Enforcement Agencies in the year 2017; iii. Progress Report on Development of guidelines for Police and Pakistan Customs regarding IPR Enforcement; iv. Sharing of Quarterly and Annual Data of IPR Enforcement cases by Enforcement Agencies with IPO-Pakistan; v. Media campaign on electronic and print media about respect for IP rights.
